The Beatles Last Five Albums
The Beatles last five LPs were Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album, Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road, and Let It Be. Below you can read short reviews of each of them.
All of these classic albums are included in the Beatles Remastered Stereo Box Set and Magical Mystery Tour and The White Album are contained in the Beatles Mono Box Set.
Magical Mystery Tour (1967) – Possibly their most underrated album and that’s probably because it’s not really a true album so some people have a hard time giving it real respect for the excellent songs on it. It’s the Fab Four at their most psychedelic before they began to pull it back a little bit and as a huge fan of psychedelic music, that makes it an obvious favorite of mine.
The White Album (1968) – There is no album that I prefer listening to over The White Album. It does not flow as well as Abbey Road or Sgt. Pepper and you could make an argument that it’s not as consistently great as Revolver or Rubber Soul but I love it because of the great variety that it brings to my ears. This double album is a real work of art.
Yellow Submarine (1969) – This “album” is not really much of a Beatles album because it includes only four Beatles recordingss that weren’t already released on a previous album. Yet “It’s All Too Much” and “Hey Bulldog” alone make it worth buying.
Abbey Road (1969) – This 17 track album is the favorite of many Beatles fans and for many very good reasons. The most obvious reason is the fantastic “suite” of side two. Along with the suite there’s the classic stand alone tracks like “Come Together,” “Something,” and “Here Comes The Sun.” Abbey Road also features the most smooth and most “modern” sounding production of The Beatles career.
Let It Be (1970) – This was the final album released but Abbey Road was the last Beatles album that was recorded. It is a tad sloppy and uneven by their standard but it still contains some absolutely classic tracks like “Get Back” and “Across The Universe.”
